Independent Adjuster licences

Candidates in Ontario must first be the holder of a letter of authority, after which they are required to complete four CIP courses within 30 months in order to receive a Probationary Adjusters Licence.

Eligibility for the Qualification Board

After the receipt of a Probationary Adjusters Licence individuals must successfully complete another four CIP courses in 30 months in order to be eligible to appear before the Qualification Board to complete the oral exam.

Those four courses are:
C13: Insurance Against Liability – Part 1
C32: Bodily Injury Claims
C111: Advanced Loss Adjusting
C112: Practical Issues in Claims Management

Full Adjusters licence - All lines

To obtain the full adjusters licence, you must:

successfully complete the 8 IIC courses outlined under Letter of Authority and Probationary Adjuster’s Licence
register and pay the required fee through CIAA no later than six weeks in advance of the desired examination date
successfully pass a virtually proctored or in-person exam with a mark of 70% or higher in Automobile, Liability, Property, hosted by the Insurance Institute
must be employed full time by an independent adjusting firm.

Note: Individuals may attempt the virtually proctored or in-person exam without taking the required courses if they have a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation.

Ontario All Lines Adjuster Exam Information:

The computer based exam format is multiple choice, short answer and one scenario question.
To register for the exam, please visit the CIAA website.
Exam Registration Deadlines:
- April exam session: February 15th
- July exam session: May 15th
- December exam session: October 15th
A booking email will be sent to you once registered in the exam with instructions to schedule your exam and other important details.
Exam results may take two to three weeks from the day of the exam. Candidates will receive an automatically generated e-mail advising them when their grade is available on the IIC website.
Rewrite and appeal requests are to be directed to CIAA National Office along with the required fee.
