The virtually proctored exam experience

Virtual proctoring requires you to install software on your laptop/computer, allowing an online proctor to monitor your exam via your webcam, microphone, and system activity. The virtual proctor will closely monitor your on-screen activity and off-screen behavior.

If the proctor notices any unusual behavior during the exam, they will notify the Institute so that appropriate action can be taken. You are expected to follow all proctor instructions and Institute exam policies..

For more information on Virtual Proctored Exams, visit our Virtually proctored exams page.

Technical requirements:

Virtual proctoring has certain technical requirements. Please review the system requirements on our virtual proctoring page. You must ensure you can meet these requirements prior to registering.

The in-person experience

In-person exams are computer-based exams held at select Institute centres. Sittings start promptly at the scheduled start time so please arrive at least 30 minutes early. Computers will be supplied and include secure features such as screen protection and locked-down browser software. A proctor will check you in when you arrive at the centre and verify your identity. You are expected to follow all proctor instructions and Institute exam policies.

Access to policy wordings

Digital versions of policy wordings are permitted resources for RIBO exams. The RIBO website lists the available policy wordings for each exam.

You can access the policy wordings directly from the exam platform. In the menu bar, click the “i” (information) icon to open a pop-up window with a link to the policy wordings.

You can use the search function and the hyperlinked table of contents to find information.

What can I expect during my RIBO exam?

Exam appeal process

An appeal is a re-evaluation of the accuracy of the original marking. Only the following exams are eligible for appeal and automatic remarking:

  • RIBO Level 2 – Technical/Commercial
  • RIBO Level 2 – Technical Farm
  • RIBO Level 3 – Accelerated Management
  • RIBO Level 3 – Management

An automatic remark occurs when an exam result is 3 marks or less below the overall pass mark. This process can take up to two (2) weeks.

An appeal is available to RIBO candidates whose exam result is more than 3 marks below the overall pass mark. Candidates can request an appeal within 7 days from the date their score report is released. A fee of $115 +tax will apply. Requests can be submitted via email at appeals@insuranceinstitute.ca.

The candidate will receive an updated score report within 4-6 weeks of receiving the appeal request. Please note that it is rare for a mark to change, and it may increase or decrease depending on the outcome of the re-evaluation. Candidates whose exam mark is 3 marks or less from the pass mark will have their exams automatically remarked before their scores are released. This process can take up to two (2) weeks.

If an appeal is successful, candidates will receive an updated score report within 4-6 weeks of the appeal request. Please note that it is rare for a result to change, and it may increase or decrease depending on the outcome of the re-evaluation.

An appeal is the final review of a student’s result, and no further reviews or appeals are available.
