About the program

This two-course program provides a solid introduction to the principles and practices of property and casualty insurance. A GIE certificate is awarded on successful completion.

Two courses

Courses are offered every term: fall, winter and spring. We recommend completing the courses one at a time, in sequence. Learn more

About 3-4 hours per week

In each course, allow a few hours per week for readings, class activities, and study for the exam.

Three learning options

Courses are offered in person, online, and through independent study.

GIE benefits

Intro to insurance

Courses provide a foundation for entry-level insurance professionals as well as non-core insurance employees (finance, HR, IT, etc.).

Link to licensing

GIE courses are recognized toward the licensing requirements for agents, brokers and adjusters in several provinces.

On-ramp to the CIP

As a graduate of the GIE program, you are exempt from taking the first course in the CIP program.
