Managing your career requires introspection and reflection.

Most days it can be very easy to remain focused on the day-to-day of your role and what is immediately in front of you. Taking time on a regular basis to look beyond the day-to-day and adopt a more comprehensive perspective can be really helpful to managing your career. In seeing the big picture, you can benchmark where you are now in your career path, map where you would like to take your insurance career next and plan the route that will get you there.

The Assessment Tool below will enable you to look at your career from a variety of angles. It will also help you evaluate your overall satisfaction with your current career path, your goals, and readiness for your next challenge. You will likely find it helpful to engage in this exercise - either completely or in parts - on an annual basis.

Get to know the organization you're working for. There are lots of jobs within each organization. Don't be shy in those [performance] reviews. Ask the questions. Tell them what you want to do, and know they can help get you there. I'm a big picture girl and want to know all the knowledge, so I say just ask the questions."
