Finding a stable industry with the opportunity to carve out a career path that is as unique as you are seems like a bit of a unicorn. But, it’s a very real possibility in the insurance industry! Your education, interests, and experience can be your vehicle to the challenge, reward, above average earning potential, and sense of an inclusive community you are looking for. Our Career Connections team will support you in exploring all that the industry has to offer and in getting connected to top insurance employers. Once hired by one of our participating employer partners, you will engage in a comprehensive learning program designed to kickstart your insurance career! The On-boarding program is offered at no-cost to you and represents a significant investment in your development by your employer. You will earn your full salary while you learn both on-the-job and in the virtual classroom.

Phase 1

Learn more about how insurance works, your career prospects in this essential and vibrant sector, and ways to put your best foot forward when connecting with leading employers!

In this introductory phase, you will decide whether this is the right industry for you. You will be invited to participate in events designed to give you a glimpse of what it really looks and feels like to work in the insurance industry. These a Virtual Speed Networking session and 1:1 Coffee Chats with insurance professionals in key industry roles – Broker/Agent, Underwriter, Loss Adjuster, and Risk Manager. You will also have the chance to engage in workshops to help you build your insurance resume, network effectively, and ace the interview!

This session for career practitioners, advisors, and employer relationship managers will provide a comprehensive introduction to this brand new and exciting initiative! Together we will walk through the goals of the program, how it is structured, participating employer partners, and the amazing opportunities that await your students, new grads, and alumni in the insurance industry!

Careers in Insurance - Virtual Speed Networking
May 4 | 12:00 – 1:30 pm Mountain Time

Combining an Insurance 101 workshop and fast-paced round robin style networking, this event offers you the chance to meet, engage, and ask questions of industry professionals in an up-close-and-personal setting! This all will help give you a better understanding of key roles and how they fit into the broader insurance ecosystem. It is also a chance to explore how your own skills, interests, and experiences can add up to a great career in insurance!

Careers in Insurance – 1:1 Coffee Chats
May 7 | Slots available between 10:00 am – 1:30 pm and 2:00 – 5:00 pm Mountain Time

Sign-up for a 15 minute coffee chat with a Broker/Agent, Underwriter or Loss Adjuster where you can do a deeper dive into a role with someone who actually does it and get your burning questions answered. This is a fantastic way to learn more about key roles, get tips for standing out as a candidate, and build a meaningful professional connection in the industry!

On Your Own | To Be Released

Get prepared to put your best foot forward to potential employers! Craft your resume, develop your networking strategy, and hone your interview skills in these quick hit sessions available to you to watch and learn from at your own pace and on your own schedule.

Phase II – Explore opportunities and get connected to top employers!

In this next phase, you will connect with top insurance employers from across Alberta and have a chance at finding the right role and organization for you as a part of the on-boarding program. At our Virtual Industry Day event, you will have multiple platforms to showcase yourself to prospective employers including: a resume book provided to all of the participating employers, networking lounges, and even 1:1 coffee chats with employers who caught your eye via their employer profile. Employers will also have the chance to sell you on their organization and introduce you to their workplace culture via their lightning talk at the kick-off to the event.

After the Virtual Industry Day, interested employers will be in touch to set-up interviews and move through a more formal recruitment process. Employers will extend offers of employment to successful candidates and once you accept you will be officially enrolled in the on-boarding program. Should you have multiple offers, you are encouraged to choose the one that is the best fit for you!

May 14 | 12:00 - 2:00pm Mountain Time

This event will feature: lightning talk pitches from each employer partner, 1:1 coffee chats with employer representatives, networking lounges for informal engagement, and the chance to be a part of a resume boo distributed to all employers in advance of the event. This is your chance to stand out from the crowd!


Phase III

Beginning mid-June 2021

Earn and learn while getting a jumpstart on industry designations, licenses, and the skills you need to excel!

Your new employer will make a significant investment in your career and professional development over the course of your first 6 months on-the-job! This includes completion of multiple credits towards the premiere Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, applicable Level 1 General Insurance Licenses required for your role, and courses focused on honing several workplace critical skills like customer service, business writing, and more! While it will be a rigorous learning experience and you will need to put in the effort to succeed, this programming is all available at no-cost-to you and is completed while receiving a full salary and other benefits provided by your employer.
