General Insurance Essentials

 

The Insurance Institute of British Columbia is pleased to offer a live virtual course which meets the educational requirement of the Insurance Council of BC to obtain either a BC Level 1 Salesperson (Broker) or Level 1 Adjusters' Licence.

Condensed virtual courses hold classes twice per week. Students will move through the course material quite rapidly, and as such, should be fully committed to completing any assigned readings and/or homework in a timely fashion to support their learning.The first 5 studies of the C81 textbook should be read before attending the first condensed virtual class.

Course fees include two textbooks, interactive study aide (online tutorial), local membership, shipping, and applicable taxes.

Your Level 1 education will introduce you to risk, risk management and loss prevention, insurance categories, sales distribution, insurance as a contract and policy, underwriting and rating, claims, automobile insurance, property/liability insurance (homeowner, other, commercial), ethics, regulatory framework, and techniques for career success.

• Instructor-supported option for those living in remote areas

Examinations:
Licensing exams are two (2) hours in duration | 100 multiple-choice questions | 70% is required to pass

Exams for the course are written online with a virtual proctor. Available dates are during set exam administration periods occurring monthly. The exact day and time is scheduled by the student after exam registration.

Virtual proctoring involves the installation of software on a candidate’s laptop/computer and use of a webcam, among other requirements. The virtual proctor closely monitors candidate activity during the exam.

Online licensing exams are subject to an additional fee, per candidate, per attempt.

Successful students are eligible to apply to the Insurance Institute of Canada to receive credit for C11: Principles & Practice of Insurance, the first course in the CIP designation series. The cost for this credit is $94 +GST. More information is available on the credits page of our website
