General Insurance Essentials

Best route to take if you:

• Prefer to study in a classroom setting
• Are new to the industry and would benefit from the knowledge of an instructor

The following colleges offer the Level 1 Licensing course in conjunction with the Insurance Institute of BC. Fees vary by college, and students must register directly with the college of their choice.  Please visit individual websites for exact dates, times, and fees, as the information listed below is intended only as a guide.

 

The 2018 edition C81 & C82 textbooks are required for all courses.

 

Douglas College - New Westminster | Phone: 604-527-5472

• Location: New Westminster Campus
• Dates: January 18 to March 7, 2020 (no class February 15)
• 7 Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., last class 9 - 11 a.m.
• Cost: $630 plus textbooks which are available from the college bookstore
• Usually offered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters

Langara College - Vancouver | Phone: 604-323-5981

• Location: West 49th Avenue Campus, Vancouver
• Dates: TBD
• 13 Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., exam last class 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
• Cost: $632, plus textbooks which are available from the college bookstore.
• Usually offered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters

• Location: Interurban Campus
• Dates: Fall 2020
• 14 Tuesday evenings, 6 - 9 p.m., exam last class 6 - 8 p.m.
• Cost: $625, plus textbooks which are available from the college bookstore.
• Only offered in the Fall semester

Vancouver Island University - Nanaimo | Phone: 250-740-6400

• Location: Nanaimo Campus
• Dates: April 1 to June 24, 2020
• 13 Wednesday evenings, 6 - 8:30 p.m.
• Cost: $650, plus textbooks which are available from the college bookstore.
• Only offered in the Spring semester

EXAMINATIONS

Students write the exam during their final class for all courses except virtual and fast track.  The exam is two (2) hours in duration.  The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and 70% is required to pass.  You receive your marks back via email in approximately three business days.
