Attachment rates for equipment breakdown remain low, despite the coverages being relatively inexpensive and filling important gaps in commercial property insurance.   This introductory seminar will cover the basics of a breakdown policy with a focus on real-life loss examples and how to explain the coverage to your clients.  This will help them make a more informed purchasing decision and have a better understanding of what they are able to claim when they have a loss.

Seminar Topics Include:

  • Why coverage is needed: property exclusions, inspections, services
  • In-depth review of covered "objects" and what can go wrong
  • Additional coverages: Business Interruption, Extra Expenses, Spoilage, etc.

PresenterIan Sutherland, BA,CIP
Ian joined BI&I as a Marketing Representative in 2016 and has presented on equipment breakdown and other specialty products for brokers and underwriters all over western Canada.  He previously worked as both a commercial and personal lines underwriter in Calgary.  Ian holds a BA in economics from the University of Calgary and a CIP designation.  He also sits on the board of the Alberta Society of Fellows and volunteers as an industry ambassador with the Insurance Institute's Career Connections program.
