WEBINAR  |  BUILDING  |  TECHNICAL

In this 1.5 hour webinar, you’ll learn simple ways to help clients understand how climate change is increasing risk and simple ways to help prevent a flood from occurring in their homes, all while earning CE technical credits.

Severe weather is on the rise. We are seeing an increase in frequency and severity of extreme weather events. Insurance is evolving as well. With more events happening and more insurance products available, where does government disaster assistance come into play? What is the interface between insurance claims and eligible government assistance? How can your clients reduce their risk and impact of an event? How can they shorten their recovery time?

Hear from Insurance Bureau of Canada and the Alberta Emergency Management Agency on the collaboration taking place between industry and government on recovery efforts from these major events throughout the province.

Brokers: Brokers and agents are on the front lines talking to clients about insurance. This session will help front lines staff understand how the industry and government approach the interface between insurance and eligible government assistance and identify potentially underserved markets and coverages.

Underwriters: Risk appetite varies between insurers. Some companies may have a higher threshold for specific locations than others. Underwriters will benefit from this session to understand the risks that Albertans face before disaster strikes.

Claims Adjusters: Claims adjusters see the aftermath of severe weather events all too frequently. While today’s policies cover most events, there are some things that insurance just may not cover. This session will outline the interface between insurance claims and eligible government assistance in Alberta.

Seminar Topics Include:

  • Recognize the severe weather trends we are seeing in Canada and the top 10 costliest insured events in our nation’s history
  • Discover details of recent major fire and flood events in Alberta
  • Distinguish the interface between insurance and government disaster programs
  • Learn about Alberta’s Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) including timelines and exclusions
  • Understand how overland flood insurance payments interact with DRP claims
  • Discover how your community and clients can prepare for an event and reduce their risk
