surety system and its functions? Surety bonds play an important role in managing
construction contract risk. See both sides of the surety process from the
perspective of the owner and the contractors bidding on and performing
contracts. Find out how bonding compares to other risk management approaches in
construction.

managing contract risk (ie. Irrevocable Letters of Credit)

professionals to learn more about bonds

Presenters
Robert Sloat, Regional Director - Western Canada
- Surety Association of Canada
Bob has extensive
experience in the construction sector – in a provincial government (Housing
& Public Works; Municipal Affairs), industry associations at the national
level, and private industry. He is a graduate in Engineering of the Royal
Military College of Canada and served in the Royal Canadian Navy. His
career includes leading a mid-size construction company as President and
executive positions with a number of national trade
associations.
Based in Vancouver, he is responsible for representing
the surety industry, including business development and government relations, in
Western Canada. His primary role is to act as a resource person for large
public procurers; to explain the surety process and how owners and contractors
can get the most from it.
Bob is involved in government and industry sponsored committees
across the west focused on bettering the procurement process, especially for
infrastructure. He has been serving with the Surety Association of Canada
since 2009.
