Independent Adjuster Licensing in Manitoba

The Insurance Institute of Manitoba provides the following education requirements for those interested in pursuing exams for various levels of Independent Insurance Adjuster Licenses.

Level 1 Assistant Adjuster

Applicants must successfully take a written exam with the Insurance Council of Manitoba.

Level 2 Assistant Adjuster

To complete the education requirements of your Level 1 Independent Adjuster licensing, you need to successfully complete one of the following:
C11 Principles and Practice of Insurance
or
General Insurance Essentials (GIE): C81 Part 1 and C82 Part 2

Level 3 Adjuster

To complete the education requirements of your Level 3 Independent Adjuster licensing, you must be employed as an insurance adjuster in a general insurance company or an adjusting firm for not less than two years and successfully complete all of the following Insurance Institute of Canada courses:
• C11 Principles and Practice of Insurance
C12 Insurance on Property Part 1
C110 Essentials on Loss Adjusting
• Any one of: C13 Insurance Against Liability-Part 1, C14 Automotive Insurance-Part 1, C111 Advanced Loss Adjusting, or C112 Practical Issues in Claims Management.

Level 4 Independent Adjuster

To complete the education requirements of your Level 4 Independent Adjuster licensing, you must be employed as an insurance adjuster in a general insurance company or an adjusting firm for not less than five years, is sponsored by an adjusting firm, and successfully complete all of the following Insurance Institute of Canada courses:

• C11 Principles and Practice
• C12 Insurance on Property
• C13 Insurance Against Liability
• C14 Automobile Insurance-Part 1
• C110 Essentials of Loss Adjusting
• C111 Advanced Loss Adjusting
• C112 Practical Issues in Claims Management
• C16 The Business of Insurance

Level 5 Firm Licence

Must have your CIP designation.

The courses listed above as your licensing education requirements can be taken with us in various learning formats:

In-class or virtually with the Insurance Institute of Manitoba (depending on time of year and local offerings) - see CIP Courses and GIE courses, or
• Self-study (distance or independent learning) as offered by the Insurance Institute of Canada - see CIP Courses, GIE C81 and GIE C82.
