TORONTO, ON, APRIL 24, 2025/insPRESS/ – The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) is pleased to announce its Board of Directors for 2025/2026, who were sworn in during its recent AGM. The Board comprises 11 insurance brokers representing small and large brokerages across Ontario. The IBAO represents over 16,000 insurance professionals across the province.

At its AGM, IBAO’s Membership approved a Bylaw change expanding its Board from 9 to 11 Directors, allowing new appointments without disrupting the existing leadership succession.   

“Our Board of Directors plays a critical role guiding IBAO’s strategic priorities and ensuring IBAO initiatives reflect the needs of Ontario’s broker community,” said IBAO CEO Colin Simpson. “Their leadership and guidance strengthen our advocacy efforts and support the continued growth and relevance of our association.”

Shara Bierman, Principal Broker at Strong Roots Insurance in Stratford was named IBAO President. She joined IBAO’s Board in January 2021 with roles on IBAO’s Finance and Audit Committee, as Young Brokers Council Liaison and IBAO Observer for the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada. She brings over two decades of experience as an insurance broker and has built her career on mentorship and a deep commitment to the broker channel.

“I’m honoured to serve as President of IBAO,” said Shara. “The association is a driving force in strengthening and protecting the future of Ontario’s Broker Channel. Its work has never been more important. I’m excited to contribute to that mission and look forward to working with such a dedicated team.”

Joining IBAO’s Board as Southwestern Ontario Director is Cassandra Backhouse—Aviation Account Manager, Private & Commercial Risks at Nacora International Insurance Brokers. As its Central West Director, Jay Regimbal—Managing Partner at Youngs Insurance Brokers joins the Board, and as a Skills-Based Director, Brenda Rose—Partner & Executive Vice President at FCA Insurance Brokers joins the Board. Dario Battista, President of isure, is now IBAO Chair.

Ending her Board term is Suzanne Pountney—Commercial Lines Manager at Ontario West and Bill Blaney Insurance Brokers.
