Today, more than ever, consumers are looking to the online world for their insurance; from the pages of MSN to television ads promoting multiple companies with fast and easy online quoting tools.  If this trend continues the personal lines broker of today may find their role obsolete in the future.

Insurance Education_107When I was looking to further my broker career I realized I needed to expand my current skill set in order to compete.  I was five courses into my Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and trying to decide on an elective course that could help me advance my career.  A friend suggested C131 Advanced Skills for the Insurance Broker & Agent. This course became the catalyst that led me to becoming one of the top performing commercial sales executives in my company.  It opened the door to the realm of commercial insurance and provided me with the knowledge and skills I needed; boosting my confidence and setting the foundation for what has turned out to be a fulfilling & lucrative career.

The course addressed topics such as:

- Identifying and analyzing commercial exposures
- Introduction to risk management
- Sales and marketing
- Monitoring and modifying the risk management plan

If you’re struggling to find a way to advance your career as a broker, try advancing your skills with the CIP designation. There are 30 electives to choose from and offer a wide variety of options suited to your desired field of interest.
