Benefits of Membership

Why should I become a member?

Our members tell us that having a membership with the Insurance Institute, distinguishes them to current and prospective employers by demonstrating commitment to continuous learning and development.

Employers agree that Insurance Institute of Canada membership is a key indicator of commitment to a successful insurance careerafter all, the Insurance Institute was created by the industry itself.

Our members enjoy the connection to Canada’s largest network of property and casualty insurance professionals. As members, they have access to a wide range of learning opportunities designed to enhance their careersincluding our CIP and FCIP designation programs, newly developed certificate programs, professional development and continuing education options, plus social and networking eventsoffered in a variety of formats.

Membership also enables us to conduct industry research which we can share with our membersincluding our industry trends papers from the CIP Society, our demographic research, and our Emerging Issues Research Series, which includes recent reports on Cyber Risks, Automated Vehicles and the Sharing Economy.

After you complete the CIP designation, you will be invited to join our graduate community known as the CIP Society.  As a member of the CIP Society, you benefit from advanced learning opportunities, information services, and recognition and promotion of your designationsboth within the industry and to consumers.

Why do I have to retain my CIP Society membership and continue to pay dues?

Because the CIP and FCIP are designations and not degrees, your membership in the CIP Society allows you to continue using your designation to identify your professional status in the insurance industry. Like all professionals with designations, your annual membership demonstrates your commitment to lifelong learning and abiding by the Code of Ethics of the Insurance Institute, and your dedication to your profession. Your membership dues help promote the designations to the public and help raise the standard of education, experience, ethics and excellence of the profession through a variety of programs and services. In addition, membership in the CIP Society keeps you connected to a community of over 18,000 professionals with common goals and objectives. And did you know that you can easily earn back your membership dollars through the MemberPerks savings program, which offers discounts on everyday buys, special purchases and trips?
