New and Amended Alberta Standard Endorsement Forms

On March 1, 2023 the Superintendent of Insurance approved significant amendments to the two Family Protection Endorsements, and two new DCPD Deletion Endorsements. In addition, the Superintendent approved adding DCPD to the AB-SEF 30(A) Attached Machinery, Apparatus or Equipment Exclusion Endorsement: Sections A.1 and C. This webinar will review these endorsements, and the Superintendent’s expectations around their use.

The Family Protection Endorsement is a complicated endorsement and is a low frequency, high severity coverage, that is recommended that all insureds add to their policy.

DCPD came new to Alberta January 2022, and these endorsements remove that coverage but do not exempt drivers from the limitations imposed by DCPD provisions. This endorsement is not for everyone, and it is imperative that insurance personnel clearly understand what this endorsement does and does not do.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will understand the main amendments made to the Family Protection Endorsements and the Superintendent’s expectations around the applicability of these changes.

Attendees will understand the purpose for introducing the new DCPD deletion endorsements, and the amended AB-SEF 30(C), and will understand what the endorsements are intended to accomplish.

Presenter: David Sorensen, FCIP, Deputy Superintendent of Insurance, Government of Alberta

As Deputy Superintendent, David leads a team who are responsible for regulating insurance companies operating in Alberta.

David has played key leadership roles in insurance companies in B.C. and Alberta.　 Before joining government as Deputy Superintendent of Insurance in 2014, David was Regional Director of Claims for a national property and casualty insurer.

David is a Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), and also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. He is also a certified instructor with the Insurance Institute of Canada.
