In this half day seminar participants will learn about the environmental liabilities associated with commercial/industrial properties, spill response and remediation of contaminated sites.  An understanding of costs/cost control, risk receptors, regulatory notification, qualifications, and legislation will also be presented.  Attendees can apply the learnings to current and future claims to understand and control risk and costs.

The material presented during the session will be of a basic/intermediate level and will include multiple case studies from western provinces (British Columbia, Alberta & Saskatchewan).

Presenters: 

Barry Rakewich, P.Ag., EP, is the general manager (environmental) for Nicols Environmental (Canada) Ltd., working out the head office in Edmonton.  Barry is a professional agrologist, registered in both Alberta and British Columbia, with 18+ years of consulting and industry experience.  He is a born and raised Edmontonian, who obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Conservations Sciences from the University of Alberta.  His areas of expertise include soli and groundwater assessments and investigations; site remediation evaluations, desgn and implementation; in situ remediations and chemical oxidation; and spill response and clean-up.  Barry also takes great pride in sharing his experiences / expertise through numerous presentations he has completed over the past several years across North America, and his committe-based work with NAIT and the City of Edmonton. 

David Nuell, P.I.M.P., is a Southern Region Manager for Nichols Environmental (Canada) Ltd., working out of our Calgary office.  David is a professional agrologist, registered in both Alberta and Saskatchewan, with 20+ years of consulting and industry experience.  David is a 4th generation Calgarian who obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Calgary in 2002.  His areas of expertise include Environmental assessments (Phase  I and II ESAs); contaminated sites and site remediation; and spill response clean-up.
