Caroline Schweppe | Vice President of Insurer Solutions, Applied Systems

Caroline leads the Applied Systems Insurer Solutions team in Canada, and has more than 20 years of experience working with IT firms in the Canadian and U.S. insurance industry. She formerly served as vice president of business development at ClearRisk Inc., a provider of risk management solutions to insurers, insurance brokers and professional risk managers. Before that, she held a number of business development and advisory roles at CGI, Insurers Advisory Organization (IAO) and Bank of Montreal. Caroline holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dublin and has a diploma in Canadian Risk Management from the University of Toronto.

Automation is great in theory but does it really provide the customer service experience that all client’s want? Is there a one-size fits all for all customers, all products and all offices? New technology solutions pop up like wild flowers, each promising to be the latest and greatest in a solution to streamline processes and help brokers work faster and be more profitable. But at what cost? Explore these questions and more as we test theory against the practical, everyday use of InsureTech.

Gillian Van Kempen | President & COO, Best Buy Insurance Brokers Inc.

Gillian is the 4th generation of the Van Kempen family to join the insurance broker side of the business. The family's roots date back over 70 years to 1946 when Gillian's great-grandfather founded his insurance brokerage in Toronto. Gillian received her honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and went on to attain her CAIB, CIP, FCIP and CRM designations. She has served as President of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario's Durham affiliate, as well as a number of insurance industry boards, company broker councils and, for 16 years has served in the planning of the Starlight Insurance Gala which annually raises over $250,000 in support of seriously ill children and their families. Gillian has been a licensed broker for 20 years and has worked in virtually every channel of the insurance industry.

We’ve seen industry incumbents and new entrants invest in InsurTech to capitalize on the potential of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics. While there are a few pockets of the industry where these tools are in use today, we have not yet seen the wholesale disruption that many predicted would follow. In this interactive session, you’ll learn about the success stories that exist in the market today and explore the tools and technologies that hold the most promise for tomorrow. You’ll also learn how to transform the promised changes to reality and uncover the role the policyholder will have in driving this change. Finally, discover the key questions industry players must ask when evaluating the potential InsurTech for claims holds for their business.

Greg Smith MBA, FCIP, CRM, | Chief Client Officer, Crawford and Company

Greg is Chief Client Officer at Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc. where he is responsible for the firm sales, marketing and account management strategy. Throughout his 23-year career at Crawford he has held a number of leadership roles in marketing, project management, operations, IT, HR and sales. As a member of the Canadian board of directors and global senior leadership team Greg has been responsible for a number of change management and business transformation initiatives that cut across the organization.
