In this half day introductory seminar, participants explore the basic elements of Habitational (Personal Property) Insurance.  Participants identify different types of exposures and property, learn how coverage applies to each, and discuss exclusions and limitations common to Homeowners Comprehensive coverage. Participants will improve their understanding of Habitational insurance concepts and their application.


  • Outline and understand a standard Homeowners Comprehensive Policy
  • Explore different exclusions and limitations in all risk policies
  • Discuss various endorsements to extend coverage or remove exclusions
  • Recognize the basic differences among seasonal and secondary dwelling policies
  • Who should attend:
    Insurance professionals and support staff seeking a basic introduction to habitational insurance.  Any understanding of basic insurance principles and practice would be beneficial in understanding the concepts being presented.

    Presenter: George Cooper, CIP

    George is an enthusiastic and energetic individual with over thirty years experience in the education and develpment, management, sales and service areas of the insurance industry.  Among his significant achievements are the curriculum development for, and facilitation of, programs improving individual and team performance in:

    • personal lines insurance sales and service
    • challenging insurance agent licensing exams
    • Insurance Institute of Canada Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) courses
    • interpersonal and technical skill development
