This seminar will be focused on recent case law in Alberta, how that case law may impact our application of the law to particular cases, and how to use/distinguish these cases in dealing with claimants. We will touch on the following topics:

   Litigation insurance
   Cannabis and home owners insurance
   Innocent insureds
   SEF 44 coverage
   WCB and vicarious liability
   Mental and psychological injuries
   Diminished value claims

Brokers: will learn how the courts are dealing with the SEF 44 endorsement where there is no coverage under the SPF #1. What impact will cannabis have on home owner's policies? How will the innocent insured be treated?

Underwriters: will learn how the Courts are dealing with WCB and vicarious liability of related companies. Do the related companies have any exposure to WCB claims?

Claims adjusters: will learn about litigation insurance, how the Courts are dealing with this and how are the Courts quantifying mental/psychological injuries?

By attending this session you will learn:

   What to expect with respect to WCB claims
   How to quantify the psychological/mental injuries
   How are diminished claims being dealt with by the Courts

Presenters: 
Sharon Stefanyk
has been handling insurance claims for the past 30 years involving construction, fire lossess, product liability, subrogated claims, personal injury claims, professional liability and municipal/government liability cases.

Paul Kolida is an Edmonton-based lawyer serving clients within the areas of General Litigation and Insurance. Paul provides a variety of services to clients in the insurance and banking sectors as well as general litigation work for businesses of all sizes.
