With the legalization of recreational cannabis and regulations for edibles soon to come, Field Law's Cannabis Group has the knowledge and experience to help clients, including those in the insurance industry, understand how cannabis laws impact them.

Some topics of interest will include:

  • The current status of the law for recreational cannabis use in Alberta and how this differs across Canada
  • What types of policies will be impacted
  • How impairment will be evaluated
  • What coverage issues might arise pursuant to various standard policies 
  • What claims might arise and how they should be investigated, and
  • Looking ahead at the legalization of edibles in 2019.

Who Should Attend:
Designed for Insurance Brokers, Underwriters, Adjusters, Risk Managers, and anyone concerned about how common commercial, residential and personal insurance policies will be impacted by recreational cannabis.

Presenters:

Erika Carrasco , Partner, Field Law, is a litigation lawyer with experience in the insurance, construction, and energy industries among others. She is the leader of the firm’s Emerging Technology and Law group that includes Cannabis Law as one of its areas of focus.

Christin Elawny, is a labour and employment lawyer helping both non-unionized and unionized employers with complex claims, planning and other employment-related needs. She is one of the leaders of the firm's Cannabis Law industry group and has advised many clients in regard to cannabis and its effect on the workplace.

Mark Mielke is a lawyer with experience in mergers, acquisitions, finance and capital markets regulation. Mark works with a number of licensed producers and licenced retailers providing efficient legal solutions to the cannabis industry.
