, this webinar will help shed light on how the p&c insurance industry
can better prepare to serve the emerging market and to manage new
competition.
Join our panel of experts
to learn about the social, economic and technological drivers
behind the emergence of the sharing economy; the social benefits of
sharing; challenges with regulation; and the potential for disruption in the
insurance industry. Also, hear recommendations for how the industry can better
serve sharing platforms, providers, and consumers, as well as recommendations
for how the industry can better manage competition from insurtech and
peer-to-peer insurance providers.

Karim Hirji, SVP, International & Ventures, Intact Financial Corporation
Karim Hirji has been Senior
Vice President, International & Ventures of Intact Financial Corporation
since October 2015. In this role, Karim is responsible for IFC's international
expansion efforts, as well as deploying capital to expand IFC’s core
competencies and invest in new ventures. As part of his mandate, he is
leading the advancement of products and partnerships within the sharing economy.
Karim is keenly interested in how consumers’
expectations and demands are changing and how the industry is
responding.
Ryan Stein,
Director, Policy, Insurance Bureau of Canada
Ryan
leads a team of analysts who work with insurance
companies to develop solutions to the various legislative and
regulatory issues that affect their businesses in Canada. Ryan is
a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and holds an undergraduate
degree in international business and a master’s degree in international
affairs from Carleton University.
Ryan poses the
questions: Is all disruption innovative? And is all
innovation disruptive? He’ll speak to navigating the sharing economy together as
an industry.
Paul Kovacs, Research Consultant +
Report Author, Insurance Institute of
Canada
For more than 35 years Paul Kovacs has been a popular
commentator on insurance, disaster safety and economic policy. He has written
more than 200 publications and articles and he is a passionate champion for
insurance, disaster resilience and adaptation to climate extremes. Paul has
worked in private industry, the public sector and academia, and is
a member of a number of Boards and Advisory Panels. The Insurance Institute has
been proud to contract with Paul to research and write the first three reports
in our Emerging Issues Research Series. He will present on the findings
of his research, the changes that the sharing economy is expected to bring to
the industry, and the recommendations identified in the report.
