Amphibious Construction for Flood Risk Reduction: Implications for the Insurance Industry.

Flooding is the most frequent natural hazard in Canada, with each event causing property damage and social disruption. As climate change continues, the frequency and intensity of floods will only increase. Given this, how can individual homes be adapted to withstand floodwater?

In this talk, we’ll hear from Dr. Elizabeth English, one of the world's leading researchers on amphibious construction. Her buoyant foundation retrofit adaptation solution allows for otherwise-ordinary structures to float safely on the surface of rising floodwater. By reducing flood risk to these existing homes and thus eliminating the likelihood of damage, can we increase the insurability of homes in floodplains that would otherwise be poor candidates for flood insurance?

Register now to hear Elizabeth's thoughts on the potential of this technology—a discussion that will expand your views of flood damage reduction technology.

Join us at The National Club in Toronto on November 13, 2019 as we also recognize the 2019 recipients of the John E Lowes and Toronto Insurance Council Scholarships. It is a great opportunity to celebrate, network and learn.
