Join us to discuss "Rising to the Challenge of Vexatious Litigants"

Handling a claim with a self-represented plaintiff usually means additional time, legal defence costs and frustration.

We talk about vexatious litigants, but there are a range of other options available that are less extreme than having the plaintiff declared a vexatious litigant. Picking the right strategy in the initial handling and litigation could mean the difference between timely resolution and prolonged litigation. Having pleadings struck, summary dismissal, case conference, or a motion for securities for costs are all available options.

Learn from case law how to tell if your plaintiff is a vexatious litigant and, if they are, what it will take to have them declared and what effect that will have on your case.

Prepare yourself to rise to the challenge of vexatious litigants.

Brokers: Expand your understanding of vexatious litigants to be able to answer your client’s questions when they ask: "Can they sue me for that?" and "Isn’t there anything we can do to stop this?"

Underwriters: Gain a deeper understanding of the underlying issues that make it so challenging to control ballooning defence costs when self-represented litigants are involved.

Claims Adjusters: Learn about the different options that are available to coax a troublesome claim towards speedier resolution.
