Risk Management Certificate Program Courses

The Risk Management courses are delivered through facilitated online learning. There is no weekly live class, but all students follow the same weekly schedule for readings, assignments, and graded online interaction under the guidance of an instructor. Course materials include a text book and course guide. For more information visit program fees.

Time commitment: About 6-8 hours a week per course to complete readings, learning activities and online discussion.

We recommend that you take only one course at a time, and that you complete the courses in the order listed.

Please note: Final examination procedures for the Risk Management courses are changing.

In the new procedure, students will write their final examination at our proctored computer-based examination (CBE) centres and will have a choice of exam dates.

The use of proctored CBE exam centres is being introduced one course at a time, beginning with course R130: Risk Financing in the fall 2017 term (December 2017 exam).

For Risk Management courses that are not yet using the CBE exam centres, the final examination is delivered through the course web page on our e-learning website, on a date set by the Institute, and students must arrange their own exam proctor.

Please check the Final Exams tab below to see which exam procedure applies to your course.

Canadian Risk Management Designation

Students wishing to pursue the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation must apply to the Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI), which is the body that awards the CRM. Successful completion of the Insurance Institute’s risk management courses will allow individuals to meet the foundational course requirements for the CRM.

All CRM candidates must also pass standardized exams administered by GRMI. Once registered in an Insurance Institute risk management course, students can contact GRMI to register for the corresponding GRMI exam.

Please consult the Global Risk Management Institute for complete details of the steps for obtaining the CRM designation.
