To coincide with the new report, Automated Vehicles: Implications for the Insurance Industry in Canada, this webinar will discuss the burning questions the insurance industry will face as liability transitions from the human to the vehicle.

Our presenters, subject matter experts in traffic safety and the insurance industry, will discuss the important topics surrounding the following questions:

Question: What are the implications for the insurance industry? And how will responsibility for traffic collisions be determined?

Below are the full bios for our group of panelists:

Mark Francis, Manager, Driver & Vehicle Licensing at ICBC
In addition to Mark’s current role, in which he oversees vehicle registration and licensing, and Driver Licensing policy for the province of BC, Mark also co-chairs a national committee on Automated Vehicles for the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators. He is also a member of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators Automated Vehicles working group, which has the objective of developing best practices for U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions in relation to the regulation and management of automated vehicles. He is also currently serving as the Past President of the Insurance Institute of BC.

Robyn Robertson, President and CEO,Traffic Injury Research Foundation
Robyn Robertson is the President and CEO of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation, a charitable, independent, road safety research institute. During her 16 years in the research field, Robyn has published more than 100 reports and articles on a broad range of road safety issues with a focus on policy and program development and evaluation. She has delivered technical assistance for road safety programs in several countries and is the author or TIRF’s knowledge translation model. Robyn is well-versed in implementation strategies and operational practices across transportation, criminal justice and health systems, and is a member of or serves on several academic and professional Boards and committees.

Paul Kovacs , author of the report on behalf of the Insurance Institute (ICLR & PACICC)
For more than 35 years Paul Kovacs has been a popular commentator on insurance, disaster safety and economic policy. He has written more than 200 publications and articles and he is a passionate champion for insurance, disaster resilience and adaptation to climate extremes. Paul has worked in private industry, the public sector and academia. He is a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world's leading forum for the study of climate issues. He is Co-Chair of the Infrastructure and Housing Working Group of Canada’s Adaptation Platform. He is Co-Chair of the Science and Technology Working Group of Canada’s Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction. Paul is also a member of a number of Boards and Advisory Panels. He is a proud husband and father, with a growing collection of bow ties.
