Overland Flood Mapping
Up until
recently, overland flooding was excluded on Canadian home insurance policies, with
government programs kicking into place to cover damage where applicable. While
Canada remained the only G8 country without an overarching insurance solution, the
fault was on the unpredictibility of the risk and mitigating factors
such as flood defenses, new construction in flood exposed areas, and
pressures on aging infrastructure (such as sewer systems). Recent
advancements in modelling technology have enabled companies to consolidate multiple
data sources and generate stochastic mapping for better risk assessment. With storms
and floods on the rise as a result of climate change, this may be the industry’s
best chance to get ahead of the risk.
Join our webinar to learn about:
The history of overland flooding in
Canada
The need for
a national strategy
The existing flood management
strategies in the UK and the US
The

in mapping technology
The cooperation strategy to
mitigate flood risk between insurers, homeowners and different levels of
government
