Digital badges

Overview

You invested valuable time and effort to earn your credential. In return, you should be able to show off your achievement as frequently and widely as you wish. We believe this so strongly that we’ve partnered with Credly to create a digital version of your accreditation that you can display everywhere, from your email signature and personal website to social media channels and digital resume. You’ve worked hard for your accomplishments, it's time to showcase them.

What is a digital badge?

Digital badges are portable images that allow you to share your credentials across the web. You can post them in most digital spaces and insert them into digital documents. With a single click on your badge, interested parties are linked to a Credly page that details the efforts you put in to earn your credential and the skills you gained.

FAQs

What is a digital badge?

A digital badge is a web-enabled version of a credential or certification that can be shared and verified online in real-time. When someone clicks on the badge, a web page displays with a description of the credential, what is required to earn the credential and a list of skills and knowledge the earner acquired.

What platforms can I share my badge on?

You can share your badge to LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, embed it on a website or in your email signature.

How does my credential get displayed as a badge?

We have partnered with Credly, a digital badge platform to translate the learning outcomes you’ve demonstrated into a badge. The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by IMS Global. This enables you to manage, share and verify your credential digitally.

Who is Credly?

Credly is a digital badge platform that works with credible organizations to provide digital credentials to individuals worldwide.

Is there a fee to use Credly?

No. This is a service we provide to you, at no cost.

What are the benefits of a badge?

Representing your skills as a badge allows you to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of. Credly also offers labor market insights, based on your skills. You can search and apply for job opportunities right through the Credly platform.

What are labor market insights and how can I access them through Credly?

Labor market insights are pulled from live job requisitions. Based on your skills you can learn which employers are hiring, what job titles you might be qualified for, salary ranges and more. Search active job listings and even apply for them with just a few clicks through Credly. Access the labor market insights from your badge details page by clicking on Related Jobs, or by clicking on the skill tags assigned to your badge.

How will I know if I’ve earned a badge?

You will receive an email notification from Credly on our behalf (no-reply@badges.insuranceinstitute.ca) with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.

How do I claim my badge?

Click on the link in the notification email and create your Credly account. Be sure to set up your account using the same email address we sent your badge offer to. Once you create your account, just accept your badge.

I already have a Credly account for other digital badges but my IIC badge does not display. How can I claim my new badge?

Make sure the email address on your Credly account matches the email address we sent your badge offer to. If it doesn’t, add the additional email address to your account. If your IIC badge still doesn’t display, please contact Member Services.

What if I don’t want my badge to be public?

You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly. You are in complete control of your information and the information you want to be made public.

What’s to keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?

While badges are digital images that can be copied, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on the Credly platform. This eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

Can I export badges issued through Credly to other badge-storing platforms?

Yes, you can download your badge from the Share Badge page. Your downloaded badge contains Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI) compliant metadata embedded into the image. This allows you to store your badge on other OBI-compliant badge sites, such as the Mozilla backpack.

Can I import badges issued from other platforms into Credly?

Not, at this time.

I need help claiming and sharing my badge. Where can I find support?

You can find answers to frequently asked questions at the Credly Help Center.

Why does my badge display an expired message?

You are required to maintain IIC and CIP Society membership to use your CIP, ACIP, FCIP and CMGA designations and badges. Please contact Member Services to renew your membership to reinstate your badge.

I tried to claim my badge but I get an error message "Unable to verify badge". How do I claim my badge?

Badges expire if they aren't claimed within 6 months. Please contact Member Services so we can re-issue your badge.

I have my FCIP badge but I wasn’t offered a CIP badge. Can I also claim a CIP badge?

Yes, please contact Member Services to request your additional badge.

I received my PAA badge but I’d like to display my badge in English on certain platforms. How can I obtain the English version of my badge?

Please contact Member Services to request a CIP badge.
