How the Onboarding program supports employers

Recruiting and onboarding staff can be an expensive, lengthy process. The Insurance Institute would like to help you with this. Our Career Connections team has forged strong relationships with universities and colleges across Alberta. This enables us to identify and communicate with the brightest candidates coming out of their Business Programs. From there we can facilitate connections with you, the businesses who will hire them. We not only support you in hiring the best staff but also in onboarding and training them.

Phase I – Students are introduced to what the insurance industry has to offer!

Leveraging the strong working alliances that our Career Connections team has with college and university career centres across the province (including those with full time insurance programs), we will build up a pool of talented, creative, and motivated candidates for you to consider in meeting your talent needs. Students expected to complete their studies by Early May and recent graduates will have the opportunity to explore the stability, variety, and rewards associated with a career in insurance. This will be done through virtual speed networking and 1:1 coffee chats with industry Ambassadors in key roles – Broker/Agent, Underwriter, and Loss Adjuster. Interested students will also be provided with access to our Career Builder Series which empowers them to craft an effective insurance-focused resume, develop their networking strategy, and hone their interview skills.

Phase II – Get Connected to Top Talent!

At this phase in the program, you will be invited to participate in our Virtual Industry Day. This event will provide you with multiple platforms to be introduced to candidates and to showcase your organization as an employer of choice. These include: a resume book showcasing each of the participating candidates, a full employer profile (customized by your team) that will be shared in an e-magazine to all students and new grads in attendance, a 3 – 5 minute lightning talk for you to introduce candidates to your organization and workplace culture, a dedicated virtual networking lounge for your representatives to engage with students in an informal setting, and an opportunity to engage 1:1 with select students in virtual coffee chats.

After industry day is complete, you are able to invite candidates for interviews and to participate in your formal recruitment process. You will then extend candidates of interest offers of employment and once they have accepted they will be formally enrolled in the On-boarding Program.

Connect with top students from across Alberta in a dynamic virtual event with lightening talks (3 – 5 minute pitch per organization), dedicated networking lounges, and the opportunity to connect with students 1:1 over 10 minute coffee chats. You will also receive a resume book showcasing every student in attendance. There is no cost to participate and all partners of the On-Boarding Program are guaranteed a spot.


Phase III – Kickstart Your New Hires’ Professional Learning and Development!

Beginning mid-June 2021

Your organizations new hires will engage in an intensive virtual learning suite designed to quickly equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive as a member of your team! This includes the accelerated completion of credits towards the premiere Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, applicable Level 1 General Insurance Licenses, and honing of workplace critical sills such as customer service, business writing, and more! We recognize that bringing on new talent is a significant investment of time, energy, and resources. The core benefit of this program is that your new hire is learning both on the job and in our virtual classroom environment which is renowned for its learner experience and success! Our team will be your partner in making the on-boarding process as smooth, effective, and efficient as possible.
