See how appraisal/alternative dispute resolution (ADR) works in action!  Multiple mock Appraisal Tribunals will be used to demonstrate how this alternative dispute method can provide a less expensive but more efficient and accessible way to resolve issues. 


  • Review the appraisal/alternative dispute resolution process
  • Determine the effective use and selection of appraisers and the umpire
  • Identify the difference between how an umpire acts versus a judge in the court system
  • Examine the appraisal/ADR process through mock appraisals


    John Valeriote, BA, FCIP, FRM, CFEI, Executive General Adjuster & Director Mediation & Appraisal Services - Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc. 
    John has over 25 years of industry experience, specializing in multi-line, complex claims. As a claims professional, he has held roles in large insurance carriers and independent adjusting firms, with positions ranging from senior field adjuster and claims manager to executive general adjuster. Complementing John’s professional expertise is his educational background, which includes a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation, a Financial Risk Management (FRM) designation and a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University. John leads Crawford’s property appraisal practice and handle complex claims.

    Glenn Gibson, ICD.D, CIP, FCLA, FCIAA, CFE, President & CEO - The GTG Group
    Glenn is a global, award-winning author and speaker having delivered +500 presentations and publishing +250 articles. He is a past-Chair of the Board for the Insurance Institute of Canada and has achieved 7 designations in his career including his first one as a 'Chartered Insurance Professional' (CIP). He is recognized as an 'International Executive General Adjuster' (EGA) and has participated in a leadership role in case-managing a number of catastrophic global events. Glenn has the very unique teaching partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives for +25-years for the development and execution of their curriculum. Glenn believes in volunteerism and has served on +25 boards in his career. He is presently the Chair of the Board for the Property & Casualty Compensation Corporation (PACICC) which is an industry-funded backstop for any insolvency in our Canadian market. Beyond this, Glenn has +20 years' experience in the C-suite including +12-years in global operations.
