Strata Water Loss Workshop: Managing Water Damage Claims in a Strata (Victoria)

Comfort Inn & Suites, 3020 Blanshard St, Victoria, BC, V9T [Map]
Date and Time: May 15, 2019 1pm - 4:15pm PST

Water damage is the most common type of loss in our industry, and when the loss includes a strata unit, it can involve multiple parties and policies.

So, where do you start with a water damage claim in strata?

This seminar will begin with an explanation of the legal principles in respect to the obligations to repair, the duty to insure, and how they relate to each other in the context of BC legislation. The remainder of this seminar will be an interactive workshop providing attendees the opportunity to review water damage scenarios and determine liability.

  • Examine the steps involved in a water damage claim, from incident to assessment and response, leading to repairs
  • Compare the strata corporation's duty to repair versus the owner's duty to repair
  • Engage in group discussions and work through scenarios to identify the party liable to pay the deductible and the party responsible for repairs when the damage is below or above the deductible
