Broker/Agent Level 3 Licensing in BC
There are two options for you to achieve the education required by the Insurance Council of BC to obtain a Level 3 General Insurance Agent Licence, using the Level 1 Licensing and Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) education pathways.
Option 1: Level 1 Licensing (GIE), C130, C131 and C132
This route requires you to complete the Level 1 Licensing (GIE) course, plus three courses from the Insurance Institute of Canada’s CIP designation program:
• Level 1 Licensing (GIE) Course
• CIP C130: Essential Skills for the Insurance Broker and Agent
• CIP C131: Advanced Skills for the Insurance Broker and Agent
• CIP C132: Practical Issues in Broker Management
Option 2: C11, C130, C131 and C132
This route requires you to complete four courses from the Insurance Institute of Canada’s CIP designation program:
• C11: Principles and Practice of Insurance
• C130: Essential Skills for the Insurance Broker and Agent
• C131: Advanced Skills for the Insurance Broker and Agent
• C132: Practical Issues in Broker Management
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:
In addition to either option 1 or 2, you must complete:
• A Level 3 seminar available through the Insurance Brokers Association of BC.
• Applicants must have been licensed for five of the last seven years, with a minimum of three years as a Level 2 general insurance agent.
