C121: Advanced Underwriting

This course is not available for registration at this time. Please see the Key Dates on the Program Courses page for further information.

Please note that the final examination for this course is a computer-based exam.

Advanced Underwriting is addressed to underwriters with some experience. It continues and expands the discussion begun in C120: Underwriting Essentials.

You will review the nature of an underwriter’s work and the types of knowledge, skill and temperament an underwriter needs. Advanced Underwriting examines how these characteristics must be broadened and deepened to analyze the needs and loss experience of larger, more complex risks.

You will be exposed to some more unusual or specialized lines of insurance. You will consider the broader perspective a more experienced underwriter needs in dealing with the legal and regulatory environment, manuscript wordings, alternative risk transfer, reinsurance and international risks.

Course Note: Before you take C121: Advanced Underwriting, we recommend that you have taken the following courses: C11: Principles and Practice of Insurance,  C12: Insurance on Property, C13: Insurance Against Liability—Part 1, C14: Automobile Insurance—Part 1 and C120: Underwriting Essentials.
