This engaging session will help insurance
professionals understand the ramifications of underwriting heritage status
buildings dealing with replacement costs and repair values through the use of
case studies. The session will further explore how to assemble the right team of
experts and identify which third parties to liaise with to ensure a successful
strategy in the event of a claim. We will review in-depth how to choose the
appropriate treatment for historic buildings and why it is critical to
understand the difference between preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and
reconstruction and the cost implications for each.

Nicholas has been providing building science services for over
30 years across Canada and Europe for new construction and building restoration
to a broad array of public and private sector clientele, including Fortune 500
companies. This experience includes exposure to a variety of building types,
including Historical, Residential, Condominiums, Municipal, Industrial,
Institutional, Commercial/Retail, Hospitals, Power Generating Facilities,
Entertainment, and Recreation.
Colin Robertson, Chief Underwriting Officer
& Vice President, Risk Control - Ecclesiastical
Insurance
Colin Robertson joined the Canadian team in 2008 from
Ecclesiastical, United Kingdom office, where he held progressively senior
positions. Colin brings over 25 years of experience in management,
underwrit-ing, risk control and business development to his role. As Chief
Underwriting Officer & Vice President of Risk Control, Colin is accountable
for and leads Ecclesiastical's underwriting strategy across all market segments
Canada-wide, ensuring sustainable profitability that aligns with the company's
business goals and objectives. In addition, he is also responsible for the
growth and evolution of the organization's risk management practice and
developing innovative, proactive solutions for customers and broker partners.
Colin leads a national team of experienced and qualified underwriting and risk
professionals who work locally with customers and brokers. He is an Associate of
the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the Canadian Risk Management
Designation and a National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and
Health.
John Fitzgerald, CIP, CFEI,
General Adjuster - Crawford &
Company
John is a large and complex loss adjuster with the Crawford
& Company Global Technical Services team and specializes in commercial
property claims, including product liability, builder's risk, course of
construction and wrap-up liability claims. John has also been involved in
international and domestic catastrophe experiences, including a deployment to
the Bahamas to handle losses following hurricane Irene. John is a Certified Fire
and Explosion Investigator and currently handles large commercial fire losses
throughout British Columbia.
