Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills are vital in business, and especially in the insurance industry. To think of a few examples:
- in the claims role, when dealing with insureds to reach a settlement
- in the underwriting role, when dealing with the broker on coverage
- in the broker role, when trying to secure a client
We are all constantly negotiating – in our professional and personal lives, even when we don’t realize it! Join us for this half-day session that can give you the framework to enhance your success in every negotiation!

Learning Outcomes
After the session, all participants will:
- Understand the concept of "Conflict Resolution" and how it plays out in the insurance world
- Obtain knowledge of the "Do’s and Don’t’s" of successful negotiation
- Discover how to formulate compelling "offers" to maximize their negotiating position
- Gain an overview of the psychology of negotiating
- Have discussed some "real life" examples of negotiations – some successful, some not

Matt Duffy, Matt Duffy Mediations

Since graduating from the University of Western in 1988, Matt Duffy spent the next 27 years as a lawyer and partner with Lerners LLP in London. He specialized in bodily injury claims, statutory accident benefits and insurance defence. Having gained a wealth of expertise in commercial litigation and dispute resolution – focusing on the insurance industry – Matt opened his own mediation firm in 2017.
