Emerging Leader
Kevin Sigouin, BComm, CIP, CRM
Vice President of Insurance, First Credit Union, Powell River, BC

Kevin Sigouin is an accomplished professional who inspires, engages and motivates others around him. From early on in his career, Kevin understood the importance of long-term goals and saw the value of purpose in leadership. He is a relationship builder and brings his unique style to everything he does, whether it involves multimillion dollar negotiations, lobbying on behalf of the insurance industry, or engaging with youth in his community. He is always willing to assume responsibility and understands how to get things done.
Kevin attended the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary and completed his Bachelor of Commerce in 2000. Later, he pursued his CRM and CIP designations and in 2008, completed the CNS sponsored Queens Executive Development Program.
Kevin joined First Credit Union in 2004, and was promoted four years later to General Manager and later Vice-President of the insurance division at the young age of 31. In this role, Kevin oversees multiple employees in six offices located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and Northern Vancouver Island.
Kevin is also the 1st Vice-President of the Credit Union Insurance Services Association (CUISA), which represents the interests of credit union-owned or affiliated insurance brokerages in BC. He has been instrumental in restructuring its board governance and actively participates in a number of high-level BC insurance industry committees. In 2010, he was selected by his peers as one of seven professionals to represent brokers in high level strategic accord discussions with ICBC, which negotiated, among other things, brokers as the sole distributor of ICBC Autoplan products, enhanced sections on privacy, claims and improvements in overall customer experience.
From 2004 to 2010, Kevin co-chaired the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business advisory board, where he was involved in the development and maintenance of program design and financial support for the Bachelor of Commerce University program. The program continues to promote and graduate hundreds of Canadian and international students into the insurance profession. His contribution to the program supports succession planning and ensures a new generation of leaders in insurance.
Outside of the industry, Kevin works equally hard. He has created an emerging leaders forum on the Sunshine Coast to increase youth awareness of local issues and engage youth in civic duties, an initiative that has garnered recognition from the City of Powell River. Kevin is also the president of Reach for the Sky Ltd., which focuses on bringing community leaders and funding initiatives together to help develop long-term revenue solutions to the community. In 2007, he was appointed by the City of Powell River as Corporate Treasurer of PRSC Land Developments Ltd., which is a unique public private partnership that oversees the sale and development of 800 acres of waterfront property in the Powell River region with the purpose of maximizing the economic opportunities of the region. Since 2011, Kevin has been the Executive Secretary for the BC Liberal Party, the current governing party, which has allowed him to actively participate in shaping BC politics.
Kevin Sigouin continues to impress those around him with his initiative and dedication. It is with great pleasure that the CIP Society recognizes Kevin with this year’s Emerging Leader Award.
