Established Leader

Andrew Janzen, BComm, FCIP, FRM, CAIB

President & Managing Partner, Mardon & Campbell Insurance Brokers (White Rock) Ltd., Surrey, BC

Andrew Janzen’s leadership has been recognized locally in the Lower Mainland of BC, and now it gives the CIP Society great pleasure to recognize him nationally through this CIP Society National Established Leadership Award. Andrew’s accomplishments, sustained over many years, in all facets of his life, support his nomination.

Andrew is well-respected by his peers and members of his business community. Andrew’s leadership success has been based on hard work, experience and education, and a key focus on customer service. Andrew manages, and owns shares in, two of the insurance brokerage offices of the Mardon Group of Companies in Lower Mainland BC.

His business leadership has been recognized by the White Rock/South Surry Chamber of Commerce with the 2007 Business Excellence Award for Small Business. And the following year, the Chamber of Commerce recognized him personally as the 2008 Business Person of the Year for Small Business. This award was a reflection of his involvement and leadership in his community, both professionally and personally.

As one nominator commented, “Andrew loves what he does. He is excited about insurance. Those around him consistently feel that passion. His peers and his clients are confident in his sound insurance knowledge. Andrew leads by example. Although Andrew is only 39 years of age, he has two decades of insurance brokerage experience. He is a dynamic young leader in our industry.”

He has assumed many key leadership roles in the insurance industry including serving as President of the Insurance Institute of British Columbia, including Past Governor of the Insurance Institute of Canada. In his tenure he was instrumental in promoting high profile advertising initiatives for the CIP Society promoting the CIP/FCIP designations throughout BC. And as an active Career Connections Ambassador he was a key player in bringing the Ambassador program to BC and developing the program to achieve its career awareness outreach levels to date.

Community and church roles have included: He is a Director of the White Rock South Surrey Community Foundation and a Member of the Elder Leadership Council (Board) of the Southbridge Fellowship Baptist Church in Langley. As Past Chairman of the Property Committee at the Church, Andrew was instrumental in raising money to purchase and rezone a 4.2 acre property without debt. Now as Chairperson of the Building Committee, he is actively planning and campaigning to raise $5 million to build the new church beginning in spring 2010.

Recently, in lieu of beach holidays, and because of a strong belief in helping others in need, Andrew and his church organized two work teams that have traveled to Mexico – Andrew took a team of mostly youth to build a house for a grandmother and two children in the summer of 2007 – and to Zambia – Andrew helped lead a team of 16 to build a playground and connect with the kids in an AIDs orphanage.

As his Pastor wrote in his reference letter, “I count it a real privilege to be able to work alongside Andrew. He has challenged me and caused me to grow in my own abilities as a leader. He has become a trusted friend, one that I can always count on. I value Andrew’s leadership both in the church and in my own life.”

Because of the clear demonstration of his leadership skills and professionalism, it gives the CIP Society immense pleasure to recognize Andrew Janzen as an Established Leader.
