Emerging Leader

Andrew Clark, MBA, CAIB, RF, FCIP

Vice President, SME Insurance and Risk Solutions Department Manager, Marsh Canada Limited, Toronto, ON

In just seven years, Andrew has emerged as one of the most experienced and accredited young professionals in the industry. He is a role model for other young professionals in the industry and is leading change within his organization. His passion for the industry shows in his strong work ethic, ability to lead and inspire others, and his commitment to continuous learning.

While completing his Honours Undergraduate Degree at the University of Guelph, Andrew spent considerable time researching the P&C insurance industry before choosing the insurance sector and planning his career path. Since then, his professional development has advanced at a steadfast pace garnering him a track record of success in roles of increasing responsibility.
In addition to obtaining several industry designations including his CAIB, CRM, CIP, and FCIP, he recently completed his MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, RIMS Fellow (RF) designation and is nearing the completion of his Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation.

After success in a number of progressive roles within Marsh Canada Limited, Andrew was asked to take on the challenge of leading the firm’s Small/Medium Enterprise Insurance and Risk Solutions Department in November 2010. Andrew identified strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities within the market segment he was assigned and quickly developed and executed a plan to reorganize the staff and department structure. In the first quarter alone, his efforts and those of his new team paid-off resulting in 10% growth of the department’s book of business. Solid and consistent growth has followed in subsequent quarters as well.

A firm believer in knowledge as a critical component to success, Andrew’s passion for excellence motivates others to advance their skills. In less than one year in his leadership role, he has already encouraged and inspired most of his team members to register in at least one professional designation course for the fall 2011 semester.

In addition to his dedication to the insurance industry, Andrew serves on the Insurance Institute of Canada’s CIP Society National Council and Chairs the Ethics sub-committee. The purpose of the council is to promote industry professionalism, and education, and provides recommendations on aspects pertaining to the benefits and services offered to the graduates of the Insurance Institute’s CIP and FCIP programs.

“Andrew has been a key member of the CIP Society board since day one. His contributions are valuable, and his participation commendable. I am personally grateful to have him on our team,” wrote Bob Tisdale, Chair of the CIP Society National Council, in his reference letter.

Andrew also feels strongly about community involvement. He was a Big Brother for over eight years, and still maintains contact with his ‘little brother.’ He has provided victim support services through the Guelph Police Service and mediation services through Community Justice Initiatives. In recent years, he has turned his focus to creating political change and joined the board of the Trinity-Spadina Progressive Conservative Riding Association. As Chair of the Outreach Committee, he won the Al Palladini Outstanding Outreach Trillium Award in 2009 for his successful outreach and fundraising events. A year later, he was elected 2nd Vice President of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party where he served until 2011. He also recently served on the board of the Bramlea-Gore-Malton Ontario Progressive Conservative Riding Association.

With an impressive list of accomplishments and community involvement, The CIP Society proudly congratulates Andrew on his outstanding success and honours him as a true emerging leader!
