Earthquake risk in Canada – A tale of two regions

Residents of the West Coast have been bracing themselves for the “Big One” for years. Some estimates provide a 30% chance of a significant quake along the Cascadia fault in the next 50 years. While the risk in the East is lower - Natural Resources Canada estimates a 10 to 15% chance - only 2% of homeowners in the Quebec-Ottawa-Montreal corridor have earthquake insurance. Of particular concern in the East is the number of buildings that don't meet current seismic standards.

This webinar will discuss earthquake risk in Canada, regional differences in insurance penetration and emergency preparedness, and the insurance industry's role in a national strategy.

Terrorism risk and the Canadian insurance industry  Terrorism as a global risk is evolving – from the methods used by terrorists (from high-explosive attacks to armed attacks) to the targets (from states to societies). At the same time, incidents in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Ottawa and most recently in Quebec City, have redefined how we think about terrorism at home – it can happen here.

This webinar will include a brief history of terrorism risk; an analysis of international terrorism insurance programs (including TRIPRA and risk pools); an assessment of vulnerability to an attack and scale of exposure; and a review of current terrorism insurance offerings in Canada, including third-party liability and business interruption.

Intangible risk – Measuring, monitoring and managing reputational risk

A company's reputation is everything. And when something goes wrong - whether it's a defective phone that triggers a product recall or security hack that results in a breach of data - it can tarnish that reputation and cause irrefutable damage to the company. How can companies, both big and small, mitigate reputational risk?

This webinar will cover insurance products that cater to reputational risk, including product recall and contamination insurance, restaurant contamination insurance, and cyber liability.
