This financial management course provides you with the
opportunity to learn about financial decision making within the property and
casualty (p&c) insurance industry. While you may not work directly in a
finance role, all insurance leaders need a solid understanding of financial
management issues. You will learn key concepts and tools needed to maximize the
value of the firm within the institutional framework of the property and
casualty insurance industry in Canada.
Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able
to do the following:

Financial Management for Insurance Leaders is divided into
11 one-week modules:
Introduction to Finance and Insurance
Time Value of
Valuing Bonds and Stocks
Risk, Return, and the Cost of
Long-Term Financing: Equity and Debt
Risk Classification and Pricing
Accounting and Financial Analysis
Introduction to Solvency
Final grades are based on participation in online
discussions and assignments.
Recommended Preparation for the Course
1. Candidates require some math skills to understand the
course content and to do some course assignments. A math refresher course is
available to help you to assess your skills to ensure you have the background
needed to be successful in the course. Please review the math refresher course
prior to beginning F530 Financial Management for Insurance Leaders. If you find
the refresher course challenging, you are strongly encouraged to update your
math skills prior to taking F530. The refresher course and other math resources
are available free of charge on the e-learning site to admitted FCIP
2. To do financial calculations, you will need access to a
software program or calculator. Working knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets
should be sufficient.
