C70: Gateway to Commercial Insurance

Please note that the final examination for this course is a computer-based exam.

In this course you will identify, define, and explain the essentials of commercial insurance. You will review contextual factors, key stakeholders, and the central elements of crafting commercial solutions. These concepts are illustrated through descriptions and scenario-based case studies. Additionally, you will develop the skills to reduce pain points in the insuring process and to collaborate with insurance professionals.

Course Note: Before you take C70: Gateway to Commercial Insurance, we recommend that you have taken course C11: Principles and Practice of Insurance, or have completed the General Insurance Essentials (GIE) program, or have two years’ experience as an insurance industry professional (broker, agent, underwriter, analyst).

    All insurance courses offered by The Insurance Institute are designed for individuals who want to attain a highly recognized and respected professional designation in the p&c industry. The professional designation Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) is recognized across Canada and elsewhere around the world as the benchmark of insurance professionalism.

    Gateway to Commercial Insurance is targeted towards junior underwriters and brokers, but will also be of interest to other industry professionals who want a comprehensive p&c education and the skills and knowledge required to advance their careers.

    Credit towards our Commercial Insurance Certificate program: Once you’ve taken C70, you do not need to complete the first course in the Commercial Insurance certificate: B210. C70 Gateway to Commercial Insurance is based on the same textbook as B210 and can be taken as an equivalent credit. Note that B220 and B230, the second and third courses in the certificate, are currently only offered in an online format.
