A340: Applied Business Practices in Insurance (Winter 2024)

This course examines how insurance professionals apply the tools of their trade at an advanced level. Whether claims professionals, underwriters, brokers, or agents, students will examine perspectives from the three core disciplines to deepen and broaden their understanding of the industry.

    COURSE MATERIALS
    Course readings are drawn from C112 Practical Issues in Claims Management; C122 Practical Issues in Underwriting Management; and C132 Practical Issues in Broker Management.

    EVALUATION
    Evaluation for this course will include:

    • Weekly participation in online discussions
    • Assignments
    • A final assessment (a written assignment)

    All evaluated work is delivered and submitted through the course web page on our e-learning website.

    COURSE SCHEDULE
    Length: One term (13 weeks).

    Delivery: Facilitated online learning. There is no weekly live class, but all students follow the same weekly schedule for readings, assignments, and graded online discussions. Students should plan to log in to the course website at least twice a week to participate in the graded discussions. The course facilitator provides guidance and grades student work.

    Time commitment: About 8–10 hours per week to complete readings, assignments, discussion and other activities.

    PREREQUISITES
    Before registering for this course, you must have successfully completed the following:

    • all requirements of the CIP program
    and
    •A300: Critical Thinking for Insurance Professionals.

    We strongly recommend that you also complete the following before registering for A340:

    • A310: Business Foundations for Insurance Professionals
