International Recognition

At the Insurance Institute, we strive to advance the p&c profession by supporting current and future leaders through education, professional development and personal growth. Known worldwide, our designation programs set the industry standard for excellence, and are recognized and endorsed by employers throughout Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.

In fact, our designations can sometimes count towards accreditation programs with other international institutes, including The Institutes (The American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters/The Insurance Institute of America - U.S.),  The Chartered Insurance Institute (U.K.) and The Insurance Institute of Ireland.

We are proud to support the development of international students, and are a founding member of the Institute for Global Insurance Education (IGIE), whose members come from around the world, including Asia, Australia, South Africa, India and Brazil.

Study Options for Students Outside Canada

While our courses are prepared specifically for the Canadian market, international students are welcome to enroll. If you live outside of Canada, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• Arranging Exams – You will be responsible for arranging your exams. When you register for a course, include a letter from a responsible supervisor who will oversee you as you write the exam. The letter must indicate where your exam will be held. All arrangements are subject to approval by the Institute.

• Service Fee – We provide air mail service for all materials, tests and examinations, so we charge an additional fee to cover these costs.

• GST Exemption – If you currently live outside of Canada, and will remain outside the country for the duration of your Insurance Institute course, you don’t have to remit GST with the program fees.
