The Canadian Association of Managing General Agents (CAMGA) has appointed executive officers and announced the election of its board of directors on June 12, with Taycon Risk executive Pete Tessier assuming the role as president of the association.

CAMGA, the national trade association representing the property and casualty MGA sector and delegated authority space in Canada, made the announcement at its annual general meeting on June 12.

Also at the board meeting, CAMGA chief executive Steve Masnyk announced he would be departing from his role in July after nearly five years at the helm. The board has begun the process of finding the next CAMGA chief executive.

CAMGA’s appointed officers are:

  • President — Pete Tessier is president and co-founder of Taycon Risk, an MGA based in Winnipeg. Prior to this, he was a practising broker, owner of a brokerage, member of the Insurance Council of Manitoba, and past president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba.
  • Chair — Grant Kimball is president of Angus-Miller Insurance, an MGA in New Brunswick that offers standard and specialty personal and commercial lines. He’s been at the MGA since 1978.
  • Vice president — Tony Passarelli is president of Klick Insurance Underwriters. He has more than 35 years of experience in the P&C insurance industry.

Elected to CAMGA’s board of directors are:

  • Kimberly Aggio, director of business operations at SSRU (Stewart Specialty Risk Underwriting)
  • James Bennett, chief operating officer at Ridge Canada
  • Katie Foden, regional vice president at Revau
  • Tyson Peel, regional vice president and managing director at Burns & Wilcox Canada

“These new directors are all experienced practitioners and bring to the association a thorough understanding of all facets of an MGA operation — underwriting, claims, governance, regulatory compliance, industry relationships,” Masnyk says in a press release.

“The MGA sector in Canada is at a pivotal point in its development as premier underwriters of excellence in the commercial and specialty arena, and their guidance and contributions will help raise the bar for professionalism and trust for the entire delegated authority space,” Masnyk adds. “I’m convinced the entire MGA channel will be more than well-served thanks to their leadership.”
