Why Intact acquired a home maintenance company
Intact Financial Corporation its acquisition of Jiffy Inc., a Canadian home maintenance app, which connects homeowners with home service professionals.
The insurer said the acquisition will help support its goal of “engaging three out of four Canadian customers digitally.”
Founded in 2015, Jiffy operates in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa and Calgary. At the time of the announcement, Jiffy professionals completed more than 450,000 home maintenance tasks, such as plumbing, exterior repairs, appliance repair, electrical work and furniture assembly, Intact said in a press release.
“This is a significant milestone in our journey to enhance the customer experience and drive digital innovation, while strengthening our presence in the home maintenance market,” Intact CEO Louis Gagnon said in a LinkedIn post.
“It also supports our ongoing climate prevention efforts by connecting customers with certified professionals that can perform simple and complex home improvements which reduce their risk to extreme weather events, such as cleaning eavestroughs, installing sump pumps, and fixing leaky roofs.”
All of Jiffy’s team members, including co-founders Ryan Shupak and Paul Arlin, have joined Intact Financial Corporation and will continue to operate under the Jiffy brand.
“We invest in products and exceptional brands that directly support the evolution of customer needs,” said Imen Zitouni, Intact’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
“We look forward to expanding [Jiffy’s] service offering to more customers, and geographies, connecting their network of certified professionals to more jobs.”
