FAQs on your CIP designation and attending convocation.

IISA Convocation 2025 will take place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at the Calgary Telus Convention Center. The event includes a reception and trade show, followed by a plated luncheon. After lunch, guests will hear speeches and enjoy the presentation of diplomas and awards. It’s a celebration of graduate achievements, shared with fellow graduates, colleagues, family, friends, and industry leaders. Convocation highlights the value of professional development while also providing meaningful opportunities for networking within the insurance industry. GRADUATE TIMELINES Graduates who have completed their last course and requirements in December 2024, April 2025 and July 2025 exam sessions will be invited to Convocation 2025. Those who complete their final course and requirements in December 2025, will be invited to cross the stage at Convocation in November of 2026. TICKET SALES Invitations to graduates will be sent in September. Ticket sales for convocation events will open shortly after. Please make sure the contact information in your profile is current so that we can contact you with updates. DESIGNATION INFORMATION When will I receive confirmation that I've completed the CIP program? Completion of the CIP program includes a minimum of one year insurance industry employment and successful completion of CIP course requirements.　 You will be mailed a letter from the CEO of the Insurance Institute congratulating you on your achievement approximately six weeks from the date all grades have been released per semester. When can I begin using my designation? As a professional association, the Insurance Institute has a Board of Governors that meet twice annually—once in May for the Insurance Institute of Canada Executive Meeting, and once in October for the Annual General Meeting. After students successfully complete their final exam, they will be "elected" as a graduate at one of the two Board of Governors Meetings. Graduates are permitted to begin using their CIP designation on the date indicated in the completion letter.
